So my channel has continued to grow. I’ve gone from 0 subscribers to 44 in little over a month. I’m certainly happy with that growth rate. Hell, I can hardly believe 5 people pushed the subscribe button sometimes. Every time I get a new subscriber, I jump for joy…sometimes literally.
I’ve really enjoyed the whole process. I’ve learned an incredible amount about making videos and I’m still learning like crazy.
For example, a few videos ago I was adding in all my video clips, including my intro and outro and then adding in my commentary and editing it so that the narration didn’t overlap with my intro and outro. It was a terribly frustrating, time consuming process.
Turns out…it was unnecessary. Instead, what I should have been doing was adding in just the action clips, then narration and putting my intro and outro in last.
So simple and so obvious once I did it, but I had never thought of it in previous videos. Pretty much each video I learn something new – sometimes something large and sometimes something small.
I’ve also had a blast finding small channels I didn’t know existed on YouTube and interacting with them. The YouTube community is so much more than the large channels with thousands upon thousands of subscribers. I’m almost ashamed that I had ignored these channels before I began my own.
Anyhow, that’s it for now. If you’d like to check out my newest video, you can find it below. If you like it, I hope you’ll take a second to subscribe and like the video.
So I managed to push another video out today. You can find it below. I plan on recording another one, since I have the house to myself for a bit. I’m going to be playing Dumb Ways To Die 2. I’ve never played it before. I just went to the app store and grabbed a random game from the ‘most popular new’ category and I plan on giving it a shot, while recording my first impressions of the game.
So yeah…that’s pretty much it.
Hope you all have a great New Year tonight. I plan on hanging out with the wife, watching some movies and eating some supper. Not much. Not too exciting but relaxing nevertheless. I’m certainly looking forward to it.
I was able to go out yesterday and buy Photoshop Elements 13, which will help me make better thumbnails for my videos, although it will probably take me a long time to learn how to use the more advanced options.
I was also able to get a Yeti Microphone, which makes the narrative so much easier to hear.
I’m not sure that’s a good thing…
But regardless of the quality of my voice, at least it shows effort put forth on my part to improve the quality of my videos. I’ve also managed to get a few more subscribers (a whopping 11 now!) and that’s exciting as hell.
So Merry holidays to me. I can now play with a bunch of new toys and hopefully, I’ll continue to improve my video making abilities.
If you’d like to check out my newest video, please watch the one below.
So my latest video was a bit of a rushed affair. With X-Mas holidays here, I’ve had a hard time finding any time or privacy to record a video and narrate it. It’s a bit frustrating to be honest, but while the family ran to the store, I quickly got down to business and recorded this video:
Last night after our X-Mas eve supper, once everything had died down, I completed my latest video. My wife was looking at me funny, as I settled down to record the narrative.
It went something like this:
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The headset was hung by the computer with care,
In hopes that Cranium soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of YouTube stars danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for recording before a long winter’s nap.
Or something like that anyways.
Don’t judge me.
Anyways, you can check out the video below. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas full of cheer, good food and family.
I saw a comment the other day on a YouTube video that basically said, ‘smaller YouTubers need to stick together’. If nothing else, that comment has stuck with me.
I never realized how much work goes into one of those videos or how much it matters to people when they get a new like or subscriber until I started making videos of my own. Every new subscriber is adored and I jump for joy each time. I don’t know if it’s the same for established, popular YouTubers, but it must have been at one point. I’m sure they didn’t start off with 500,000+ subscribers. They had to work their buns off before they got there. Some of them make several videos per day.
Hell, I have a hard time making one per day.
And I’m on holidays right now. No joke.
But it’s fun. I doubt I’ll ever have thousands of subscribers and that’s fine. I’ll keep making videos because it’s fun and I enjoy learning the process.
To be honest though, I’m not going to pretend it doesn’t matter to me at all. I’d love to reach 500 subscribers so that I can change my YouTube link to personalize it. I hate it right now because it makes me hard to find. If someone asks me what my address is, I can’t tell them because my small brain isn’t capable of holding a thousand unrelated numbers and letters at the end of my website URL.
However, I’m going to keep at it. I often go looking for small, related channels in the hopes of sparking up a relationship. I really do think small YouTubers should stick together. Each one is a fountain of knowledge that we can tap into. One might be great at editing, another at thumbnails and another at commentary. We can learn from each other, like, comment and subscribe to each other’s channels and support each other as we struggle to grow.
My latest video thumbnail. Not too shabby for a beginner.
So I was just working on a video. I had three recordings I was going to edit together, but after a few minutes I realized that one of them hadn’t recorded at all. So now I don’t have a long enough video.
Back to the drawing board.
Oh well, I guess you win some and lose some.
I find I’m having a hard time sleeping tonight, and so I decided to cruise the WordPress highway and see what I could find. It turns out (no big surprise) there is a nice selection of gaming blogs or blogs that pertain to technology in general out there. That’s nice to see.
Hell, if I can’t sleep, I might as well read and either learn something or be entertained by taking a sneak peek into another bloggers (Vloggers?) world. It’s neat seeing how creative and passionate some people are when it comes to making videos, sharing videos or games in general.
One thing I get tired of hearing is you’re wasting your time if you’re playing a game. I don’t view it as a waste of time at all. If you’re enjoying yourself doing something, then who are they to tell you how best to spend your time. If they wish to spend their free time doing something else, then all the power to them. I wouldn’t call what they’re doing a ‘waste of time’.
Enjoy! Have fun! Do you!
Anyhow, I better go try to get some rest. It’s Christmas Eve and I’m sure the wife has plans for me tomorrow, and I doubt they include sleeping.
Take care all and thanks for visiting my little blog.
So I made my next YouTube video. It took me a while, but I added some music to my intro and outro and I think it sounds pretty decent. I’m no expert by any means, but I think it sounds a lot more catchy. It was a lot of fun to do, and that’s the main thing. If it sounds like crap, it’s not like I have thousands of subscribers who will tell me so.
I have enough recording to make a second video, but I think I’ll wait till tomorrow. The one thing I need to learn is how to re-size and make better thumbnails. I’ll get there, I think. One day at a time.
So if you’re reading this, I hope you’ll take a few minutes and watch the video below. Let me know what you thought, and if you make videos yourself, drop me a link or any advice you may have.
I’ve decided to create this blog to follow my YouTube experiences. Until a few weeks ago, I’d never dreamed of starting up a YouTube channel, but I decided to do so a bit ago and found that I loved it. Making videos is awesome! There is so much to learn and do. Literally, every video has a slight improvement. My first few videos were very hard to hear, but then I learned how to fix that. I went from using a free video recorder to using an Elgato, and now I’m learning more each day about editing video. Today I’ve diligently been working on adding music to my intro and outro and I’m excited that I managed to find and put together something I think works fairly well.
So if you have a channel, please feel free to drop a link in the comments section. I’ll check it out for sure.
That’s it for now. I’ll have more in the future. You can check out my last video I made below.
